Wild Wild 2015

In 2015 we resumed our travels. First to Arizona, then to Montreal then back out west! Arizona - April In April we travelled to Arizona and hiked Sedona for a few days then on to Phoenix to participate in the 11th annual Pat's Run. The run benefits the Pat Tillman foundation and honors Pat Tillman - a great American. Sedona is gorgeous and hikable - ask a couple of fifty-somethings, we'll tell you. Pat Tillman passed up a big NFL contract to fight for his country and tragically died in Afghanistan (I'm sparing details you can research if you want.)    30,000+ runners descend on the Arizona State campus where Pat played safety and wore #42. The run is 4.2 miles and finishes on the 42nd yard line of Sun Devil stadium. After a slight calf tear in mile 2.5 Rich completed the race - it says "Don't ever stop" on the jersey sleeve so... After the injury We relaxed for a few days as guests of our good friends who were vacationing in Phoenix - no further injuries were recorded. (Friends immediately go to the "good friend" category when they vacation in Phoenix in April and invite you along.) Montreal - August When Angus calls, you go. AC/DC cranked up another north American tour - actually it was a Canadian tour with a few US stops sprinkled in. Can you blame them? Ever been to Alabama in July? or for that matter in October (no offense)?   I was afraid they boys had lost something along the way - after all Angus is 60 and Brian Johnson 67 - and what they do is not an easy feat for people half their age. Disappointed? We were not! They blew the roof & the doors off of the Olympic Stadium - I believe the amps were set at 11. Quoting the border guard on our way back home: "Old guys are rockin' out these days." - yes, ma'am, they absolutely are.   We can now personally recommend the Intercontinental in Montreal - you wont be disappointed. (What? they had a deal - we aren't rich.) We can also recommend the Sofitel from past experience (nope, still aren't rich). Yellow Stone - October We went from Mt. Rushmore to Salt Lake city crossing Wyoming and seeing some great stuff and catching up with old friends. We put together a little slide show of our time in Yellow Stone (below) - if you can name that tune we salute you!    We wandered from Rapid City, SD, stopping at Mt. Rushmore. visited old friends in Newcastle, WY, then drove across Wyoming into Yellowstone. After two and a half days in the park we headed south through the Grand Tetons into Jackson Hole. Then on to Park City, UT stopping for lunch in Idaho - where, disappointingly they did not have any form of potato on the menu! I left word with the Governor - he still owes me a call come to think of it.   I attempted to burn down the Waldorf in Park City when making breakfast in bed for Gloria. I want to apologize to anyone we may have disturbed. (They had a deal here too - we're not rich...well, technically I am, but we aren't.) On to salt Lake to see (you guessed it) the Salt Lake and the Mormon Tabernacle choir which performs in (you geussed it) the Mormon Tabernacle. (You're pretty good.) We were hosted in Salt Lake by my old hiking buddy, Elieen from my 1986 Outward Bound excursion. It was the best trip we could remember with no issues and no bear encounters (Whew!).
